The herb is a source of beta-carotene and polyphenol compounds that are known with strong antioxidant abilities. The dandelion contents vitamins A, C, D, E and K, folate and small amount of B group vitamins. It contains minerals – iron, magnesium, sodium, calcium, silicon, copper, phosphorus, zinc and manganese, too.
Bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, sesquiterpenes, triterpenes and phytosterols, determine the effect of Dandelion extract on lipid metabolism, especially in the liver and adipose tissue. Studies show that the herb helps reduce the levels of excess fat stored in the liver.
The root of the herb is rich in carbohydrate inulin – a type of soluble fiber that maintains the growth of healthy bacterial flora in the intestinal tract.
